First Event For Bike Hutto!

Bike Hutto will be holding its first event, a social ride and picnic, on Saturday, February 7th.  Bicyclists in the community will be meeting at Hutto’s Fritz Park at 12:00pm (by the hippos of course) for this family-friendly event.

A “Bring Your Own Lunch” picnic will start things off.  Over lunch, future plans and ideas will be discussed.

After lunch,  attendees will ride down the Cottonwood Creek Trail to Nadine Johnson Elementary School and the back to Fritz Park.

For those who would like a longer ride, they can plot out an extended ride to do on the country roads in the afternoon after our trail ride.

The Bike Hutto Social Ride is a great way to showcase (and perhaps introduce to some) Hutto’s Cottonwood Creek Trail, as well as get feedback and ideas as members share what they would like to see Bike Hutto become!  We will also be doing a group activity “selfie” as part of the HEB Community Challenge.

If you are interested in biking and being a part of Bike Hutto, this is the perfect introductory event to attend!

HEB Community Challenge

“The third-annual H-E-B Community Challenge launched on January 1, 2015 and runs through April. This one-of-a-kind competition spans four months and challenges communities across the state to compete to see which can demonstrate the greatest commitment to healthy living. The Challenge unites and mobilizes schools, businesses, organizations, community members, and leaders toward the common goal of transforming their community’s health.”

Have you heard about the H-E-B Community Challenge powered by IT’S TIME TEXAS?  Hutto won the challenge in our division (small community) in 2013 so it is time to defend our title!  A winning community in each category will receive a large trophy and a banner for the city. Each winning community will receive recognition via IT’S TIME TEXAS promotions and be provided with a template to provide to their local media and press. The winning communities and the runners up in each category will be recognized at the annual Slim Down Showdown Finale, and one school in each of the winning communities will be awarded a grant provided by IT’S TIME TEXAS.

BikeHutto_HEBCCPledge_2015Bike Hutto has made a commitment by signing the community organization wellness pledge and is earning points for the City of Hutto by participating in all kinds of healthy activities, and so can you!

“I recognize that a healthy community is more unite, more productive, and more prosperous.  As a result, I am committed to the health of my community and pledge to make our community a model for others to follow.”
